A little while back I wrote a list of topics that I thought might be interesting to write on. I have just finished blogging on Prayer and as I looked over the list, this one question caught my eye and I am going to give it a try. Why do we believe in something we can not see? Better still, why do we believe in a God we can’t see? I am not questioning the belief but it occurred to me that there is a lot that we don’t see yet we trust and accept.
Take Chemistry for example, all the elements that make matter in their simplest form are not visible yet we accept that they exist and they form a major part of our existence. We have been told that the earth is round and we accept it. I used to wonder where the edge of the earth was and if it was possible to fall off. This thought bothered me subconsciously when I came to the USA where my work involved driving to many different places to attend to my clients. It called for planning ahead. I would get the directions, write them down and often I would rehearse the steps before leaving home. I was confident that even though I had not been to where I was going I was going to get there. It was a known place and it was on a map. I used maps and was happy with that system because I could write down the directions and follow as I drove. Of course it had its dangers because you couldn’t safely drive and read.
You would think I would be happy when they introduced the GPS system to navigate where one was going, I wasn’t. I struggled and resisted using it, sometimes it felt like it was directing me to a place I might not be able to come back to! Or it would get me totally lost; which did happen a few times.
There are many chemical reactions happening in our body that we don’t see but we know something works. We eat and our body takes care of it. We get the energy we need and nutrients for our bodies to function so we can live.
I think that human beings are born with an ability to have faith and trust regardless of religion. I think believing in God has just gotten a bad wrap depending on what side you are on. Everyone wants to be the right one with the right story and the right belief. I can only defend what I believe in. I know this is a cross road where one might choose to leave. I am hoping you will humor me and give me a chance to tell you why I believe in the God that I believe in. Yes I have not seen Him but I do believe in Him because of what I have learnt and the evidence I see around His existence.
What if I take my physical eyes from what I can physically see and focus my inner spiritual eye on what God sees? The Big Picture…. The whole wide world! What if for a moment I forget who I am and just focus on the Great I AM who was, and who is, and who is to come!
For God so loved the whole wide world, One planet, one earth. I have heard and I have seen pictures with my physical eyes, a picture of the universe that shows the heavenly bodies, the earth is a mire dot, and from what We know it is the one place where there is life. God poured all His love over this one planet because He loved it and He invested all that He loved most His Only begotten Son. Yes, That He gave His only begotten Son.! Why? Oh Why?When I look around I don’t see what He sees! I saw one time, in the spirit while praying for the peace of the world with a focus on Kenya. I saw this fountain of the blood of Jesus flowing, like a gushing waterfall. It was full of the color spectrum shining and sparkling. The flow was big and forceful. It poured over my head, but did not hurt. Then I saw it flow on the map of the country. As I kept looking and praying it flowed majestically over the whole globe!
God’s investment is not measurable, it is not limited. It is flowing perpetually so that whoever believes in God’s Son, Jesus, should not perish. We need to see the unseen life that is in each and every human being as precious! Why? because it simply is Precious! Everyone walking on this earth is known by God and just because we don’t see God it doesn’t mean He is not there, He is right here in each and every person we can see! The evidence of God’s existence is the person, the human being I can see with my physical eyes. A human being created in God’s image, and God wants him/her to have everlasting life.
For God so loved the World, that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
We may not see God right now with our physical eyes, but we can believe in Him because He is all around us in the people we have around us, in the nature and beauty that He has created all around us! He is in the love that we receive and give to our fellow human beings regardless of race! Love has to be practiced, you have to learn to believe before you can see, because all that we see is from the unseen God! Love and blessing to each and every person on earth.
Thank you. The analogy of how we eat and do not know how the food works to distribute itself in our bodies to benefit it, but yet we believe it will. very thought provoking! Brings to light scripture “Trust in God with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding..Proverbs 3:5-6
