I had started on my usual walk not really expecting to hear anything but as soon as I started walking it started to drizzle and as I opened my umbrella I had a thought:
Why does the rain come down in drops and not just a deluge?
Immediately I heard in my spirit that if the rain came in a deluge, firstly, I wouldn’t want to walk. This made me laugh, but then I also heard that if that was so, the little flowers and insects on the ground would be destroyed and that’s when I realized how gentle God is in everything He does.
Yes rain is good for us but it comes down in droplets and those drops connect when they reach down here and they become a source of water. That source, we remember, is a sum result of molecules joining together and there is a strength when that happens.
One molecule cannot do much, in fact, you can hardly see it, but when more molecules join together, that’s when you get water that you can physically see.
This resonates in my mind about the power of many in unity. The bible speaks of the strength of warfare; five can put one thousand to flight, but one hundred will put ten thousand to flight.
Five of you will chase 100 men, and 100 of you will chase 10,000 men. You will defeat your enemies and kill them with your sword.
– Leviticus 26:8
Can one person chase away 1000 men?
Can two men cause 10,000 men to run away?
It will happen only if the Lord gives them to their enemy.
This will happen only if their Rock sells them like slaves.
-Deuteronomy 32:30
Psalm 133:1-3 speaks of another form of unity:
Oh, how wonderful, how pleasing it is
when God’s people all come together as one!
It is like the sweet-smelling oil that is poured over the high priest’s head,
that runs down his beard flowing over his robes.
It is like a gentle rain[c] from Mount Hermon falling on Mount Zion.
This thought truly spoke to my spirit about unity and how sometimes in certain situations we may want to stand alone but when one joins together with like-minded individuals we become stronger.
No wonder the enemy knows if he isolates us and starts feeding us negative thoughts, if we accept those negative thoughts, they can run us to destruction. You were created to be with other people, you just need to find the people who flow with you for you to be stronger and better together. Unfortunately two cannot walk together unless they agree.
Another thought came to mind, imagine on a hot sunny day you get up to fetch a nice cold drink of water to quench your thirst, you turn the tap on with your glass ready to collect the much needed flow. To your disappointment, the tap gives one drop of water! Needless to say, that would not solve your need!
We live in a blessed country where we do have water in abundance and we don’t have to think twice if we need some. Most of us can simply turn a tap and have water. Access to water is a basic need of every human being, not just water, but good clean water to drink and to keep clean.
A few months ago when the COVID-19 Pandemic united the whole world, there were more than 800 million people without that privilege. Did anyone think one of the guidelines would have been thorough hand washing? Of course not, and how do you wash your hands without water? I thought about it a lot and I hate to admit it but I felt powerless to help those people, at the same time I was using gallons of water to wash mine as a Care Provider. This is one of those thoughts I don’t have an answer to.
Sure I can pray and I can pray for those in authority to get the wisdom needed to help us use this natural resource more wisely. So to those of us who are blessed to have some, reach out and help those who don’t have access to clean drinking water.
Back to my original thought, water as a source of unity; remember all water is connected somewhere, do your best not to pollute it. Here are a few things I have learnt from being a Care Provider:
- Don’t flush your expired medicine or any medicine for that matter down the toilet. There are safe places to return them and if you can not, crush and mix with used coffee grains before putting them in the trash.
- This applies mostly to Western World; do not grind eggshells in the sink garbage disposal. Eggshells are rich in Calcium and it affects the composition of water.
LET’S REMEMBER TO GIVE THANKS FOR WATER.
